Tonight is the opening of the Creative Collab Durban. An exciting exhibition with some amazing local talent.
I’ve been setting up the Freshly Found display. The focus of the stand is the bespoke design installations we do. To showcase this, we’ve produced a multipurpose paper terrarium, made from recycled paper, and coated with a layer of Annie Sloan paint. They can be used to showcase natural materials, small vases or other objects of interest. I like the way the paint masks the book print, but still allows it to show through, revealing the origin of the paper.
Books are a great source of good quality paper. Most of the book paper I use comes from unsalable Charity Store stock that would otherwise be pulped.
Encyclopaedias seem to have lost their value. A friend of mine who works with disadvantaged children says they are inundated with encyclopaedia donations. I sourced this set from a local charity shop for next to nothing. I white-washed them, and tied then together with string to form shelving. They may be untied and used again if needed.See you tonight at the Design Indaba Creative Collab Durban opening at the KZNSA Gallery in Durban – 6.00 for 6.30
